The Internet is full of resources to help you become a better writer. Search some of my favorite sites below if you need help with anything dealing with academic writing.
UW-Colleges OWL Offered to UW-Colleges students, the UW-Colleges OWL accepts e-mail drafts of your writing and the OWL staff will send feedback from a peer writing tutor. OWL tutors are UW-Colleges students who have received an “A” in English 102, have been recommended by their instructors, and have undergone extensive tutor training.
You may submit your essay for review and receive a response in a minimum of 2-3 days. If it is a busy time in the semester, this may take up to a week. After submitting a paper, watch your email for a confirmation notice to ensure it went through.
UW-Madison Writing Center Handbook This resource gives helpful information on Improving Your Writing Style, Stages of the Writing Process, Common Writing Assignments, Grammar and Punctuation, Citing References in Your Paper
Purdue OWL The Online Writing Lab (OWL) at Purdue University is a comprehensive site that provides writing resources and instructional material as a free service to users worldwide. You will find information to assist with many writing projects. Check out the site map to see the vast resources available here. In addition, users may submit brief, writing-related questions to Purdue’s OWL Mail Tutors. You may also find the grammar blog useful.
Colorado State University Writing Guides Think of these Writing Guides as online textbooks. Each guide is designed to help you find information quickly on a given topic. Topics include all stages of the writing process and information on how to approach a variety of writing assignments across the curriculum.
Noodletools This site supports students throughout the entire research process. Search intelligently; assess the quality of results; record, organize and synthesize information using online notecards; format your bibliography in MLA, APA, or Chicago/Turabian style
Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary and Thesaurus Everyone needs a good dictionary and thesaurus at their finger tips. Look up the spelling, definition, synonyms and even hear the pronunciation of any word. This is a must have resource on your favorites toolbar.
GrammarBook.com This site offers free online English usage rules, examples and quizzes. Extremely user friendly and another favorites toolbar recommendation. This site also offers many English usage video clips too. Sign up to receive their weekly grammar tip too!
